Mission

The Writing Center at Tufts University aims to promote and support the teaching and practice of writing across the university. Our programs are designed to provide the resources our students and faculty need to improve the quality of writing across the curriculum.

We believe that writers benefit from the opportunity to discuss their writing with a discerning reader, so we provide free individual tutoring for all our students. Tutors can help students plan, draft, and revise essays, senior theses, conference presentations, and application essays for fellowships and graduate school.

The staff offers consultations and workshops for faculty who wish to incorporate more writing in their courses, grade papers more effectively, and design writing and research assignments. We assign writing fellows or tutors to classes to assist students with written assignments.

We sponsor faculty forums, colloquia, and conferences designed to promote campus-wide discussions about the most effective ways of teaching and learning writing, research, and speaking skills.

• Tutoring and workshops now available in Public Speaking & Presentation Skills! Undergrads and graduate students may meet with Graduate Speaking Consultants to improve skills in public speaking and for feedback on oral presentations.
