Writing Fellows Application Information

Current Tufts first-years, sophomores, and juniors are invited to apply to be Writing Fellows for one or more semesters during their sophomore, junior, or senior year.

What is a Writing Fellow?

Writing Fellows are Tufts’ undergraduate writing tutors. They hold one-on-one consultations with students in specific writing-intensive courses across the curriculum. Each student in the class is required to meet with his or her assigned Writing Fellow at least twice to discuss the assignment, writing strategies, and ways to revise and edit the draft into a polished paper the professor will then grade. Writing Fellows work closely with the professor teaching the class to clarify writing expectations. Some Writing Fellows also work at the Writing Center, consulting with students during drop-in hours or by appointment.

Writing Fellows are not just English majors! The Writing Fellows Program actively recruits students with experience writing academic papers in the fields of engineering, economics, biology, psychology, philosophy, history, art history, American studies, international relations, and political science. We are seeking students with a keen interest in writing, language, and communication. We hire strong writers with excellent interpersonal communication skills. We are also seeking students with experience in public speaking, debate, and acting for an emerging Speaking Fellows Program that will provide consultations on writing and presentation skills.
