American-Scandinavian Foundation
Fellowships for study in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden for U.S. citizens only. Preference in the competition is given to Ph.D. candidates, but graduating seniors will be considered. Some knowledge of language of host country required.

Compton Mentor Fellowship, Climate Change & Energy Policy
Tufts is invited to nominate two candidates for the Compton Mentor Fellowship in Climate Change and Energy Policy. Applicants detail a project they will work on that is practical and applied and relating to climate change / energy policy. Applicants must also indicate a mentor with whom they will work during the fellowship period. For further information, click here

Dorot Fellowship in Israel
A full year (July to July) fellowship in Jerusalem for American Jewish college graduates. The fellowship involves Hebrew studies, Jewish studies, volunteer service, and seminars. Leadership skills are emphasized.

Fulbright-Hays
Supports one year of graduate study abroad. Restriction on the academic fields varies by country. Any U.S. citizen with a B.A./B.S. degree is eligible. Tuition, fees, living expenses, transportation and a dependent allowance will be provided, though the actual amounts vary. Language proficiency is required and will be tested. A plan of study, which is designed to be carried out in a specific foreign university, is of special importance to the Fulbright review committee.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship Program
Scholarship provides up to $50,000 in annual funding for tuition, living expenses, required fees, and books for study in graduate programs. May be applied to the pursuit of professional degrees, including medicine, law, or business. Applicants must be a college senior or recent graduate, have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better, and begin a full-time graduate degree program at an accredited university in fall, 2004. Criteria: academic ability and achievement, unmet financial need, and leadership and public service. Some preference for students who have participated in arts and humanities. Tufts nominates up to two candidates.

Marshall
Thirty scholarships are available for two years of study in any field leading to the award of a British University degree. Academic excellence (3.7 average after the freshman year) and extracurricular activities are necessary, as well as a clear plan of study that fits into long term goals. For U.S. citizens only.

George J. Mitchell Scholarship
Was established for American post-graduates to pursue a one-year study at institutions of higher learning in Ireland, including the seven universities in the Republic of Ireland and the two universities in Northern Ireland. The scholarship will be awarded to students who have shown both academic distinction and the potential for leadership. There are no restrictions as to academic field of study.

Rhodes
Granted for study at Oxford University, this scholarship provides support for tuition and travel for a period of two years. Males and females between the ages of 18 and 24 with a B.A./B.S. degree by October 1997 are eligible. Criteria emphasize leadership experience. For U.S. citizens, although citizens of British Commonwealth nations may be eligible for the Rhodes Competition in their home country.

St. Andrew's Society Fellowship
Two awards nationally for a year study in Scotland. Highly competitive; selection is based not only on high level of academic achievement, but extra-curricular activities, evidence of good character and indication of further development. Must reside in a 250-mile radius of New York.

The USA Today "All-USA Academic Team"
Twenty first-team undergraduate winners will receive a $2,500 cash award. Major criterion is a "unique academic project, such as a publication, scientific project, original play or musical composition. Also strong evidence of leadership and or public recognition." Must be nominated by a faculty member.

The Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics
The contest is open to full-time undergraduate juniors and seniors from an accredited college. In 3,000 to 4,000 words, students are encouraged to raise questions, single out issues and identify urgent ethical issues confronting them in today's complex world.
