Tama Leventhal is an Associate Professor in the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development. She received her doctoral degree in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University's Teachers' College in 1999. Following graduation, she worked as a Research Scientist at the National Center for Children and Families. She comes to Tufts from Johns Hopkins University where she served as an Associate Research Scientist at the Institute for Policy Studies and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Population, Family, and Reproductive Health at the Bloomber School of Public Health. Her scholarly work links developmental research with social policy, regarding children, youth, and familiies, particularly low-income families with children. In particular, she studies the role of neighborhood contexts in the lives of children, youth, and families.
