"Application of technical knowledge without an understanding of the political and ethical context in which engineering problems are solved is shortsighted. The great power of technology cannot be effectively wielded without knowing how to aim it properly."

INTERNSHIPS

The professional internship consists of a minimum of 150 hours of supervised work usually completed during the summer between the two academic years. Most internships are located in a public or nonprofit agency. Students may also elect a research internship where they would work on a university-based project. Although faculty provide assistance and advice, and the Department posts internship listings, students are expected to secure their own internship placements, most of which are paid.
