"Having received an undergraduate degree in engineering and spent some time interning in factories, I decided that I needed to move to a field where I could use my science background while fulfilling my interest on social and political issues. This program has enabled me to look at environmental issues from a completely different perspective and has helped me thoroughly understand contemporary issues relevant to energy policy."

HOW TO APPLY

To apply, go to Embark.com. Additional information and application requirements are available at Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (617) 627-3395.

Your complete application will include:
  • Application for admission
  • Scanned copies of all college transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation (include academic and employer or internship/volunteer supervisor referees)
  • Résumé
  • Personal statement (describe your background, both academic and nonacademic, your primary objectives in applying for graduate training, your career goals, and your reasons for selecting UEP and Tufts).
  • Application fee of $75* (nonrefundable)
  • GRE general test scores are required for all applicants to the M.A. program.** GRE is optional for the M.P.P. program.
  • Students who speak a language other than English as their native language must provide evidence of proficiency. A score of 550 (213 CBT or 79-80 iBT) points or higher on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required.

*The application fee is waived only for current Tufts undergraduate and graduate students, students in Tufts certificate programs, and McNair and IRT Scholars. No other fee waivers are considered.

** We consider the personal statement, undergraduate transcripts, letters of recommendation, work experience, and GRE/TOEFL scores in assessing applications. As noted by the Education Testing Service’s Guidelines for the Use of GRE Scores, tests like the GRE, “do not and cannot measure all the qualities that are important in predicting success in graduate study.” We recognize that applicants who have been out of college for a number of years may be at a competitive disadvantage as compared to recent graduates in their performance of timed examinations that test fast recall of mathematical skills.
