TUFTS UNIVERSITY FACILITIES
Libraries
The university libraries on the Medford/Somerville campus include the
Tisch Library, the
Music Library, and the
Edwin Ginn Library of the Fletcher School.
Tisch Library contains over 750,000 books and 3,000 periodical titles, in addition to media, microforms, government publications, archival sources, and other types of material. In addition, the Tisch Library has a growing collection of over 500 electronic databases and 3,000 e-journals accessible via the Internet. It also houses special collections, audiovisual rooms and equipment, and the university archives.
The Music Library located in Aidekman Arts Center has 35,000 books on music, musical scores, and recordings.
The Edwin Ginn Library contains collections in international studies, international law, and diplomacy, with supporting collections of documents from the United Nations and other international organizations. The biology, geology, chemistry, and physics reading rooms on campus house current issues of research-level periodicals in their respective disciplines. Students also have borrowing privileges at the libraries on the Tufts' Health Sciences campuses.
Graduate students can also take advantage of borrowing privileges at 16 nearby university and research libraries through Tufts' membership in the
Boston Library Consortium.
Computer Resources
Tufts Computing and Communications Services provides students with a wide range of facilities. Students may use the
ITS Computing Center Eaton Hall for general use computing. This facility offers high speed access to the Tufts network and Internet and consists of over 100 PCs, 50 Apple iMacs, and 10 multimedia workstations—all connected to laser printers and scanners, and loaded with a wide variety of software applications. Visit the
ITS website for more information.
Wireless internet access is available at many locations on the Tufts Medford campus. New access points are constantly being added, so check out this
map to find out if it's available where you are.
Finally, there is a computer available in the Brown House student lounge for students to check email and use for quick research. While it has word processing software, it is not connected to a printer, and often has a line of students waiting to use it between classes.
