Fall Speaker
OhMegan, a sexologist and sexpert came to Tufts for a night of tips, tools and tricks for safe and fun oral sex. Over 250 students from Tufts and the Boston area came to the Crane Room to get their questions answered. We invited OhMegan to speak in order to open up the dialogue about sex so that it is both safer and more fun for everyone involved. With increased comfort in one's own sexuality comes increased comfort in discussing issues of testing, consent and pleasure with partners. At VOX we are working towards a more safe sexual environment on the Tufts campus.
VOX Movie Night
Cider House Rules was showed in the Women's Center. Keep an eye out for another movie night this Spring!
Tabling Events
Whenever possible VOX sets-up tables in high-traffic areas around campus to spread the VOX message. We hand out information on contraceptive options, testing options, political action and of course, free condoms, lube and dental dams for whomever would like them.
Did You Know? Campaigns
Every year VOX flyers around campus with alarming facts about the sexual environment in which students exist. You can find the flyers all over campus. Keep an eye out for them during the lest snowy months!
Previous Did you Know? facts:
1 in 2 sexually active persons will contract an STI by age 25 (from American Social Health Association).
Only 53% of sexually active young adults ages 18 to 24 say they have been tested for STDs (from Kaiser Family Foundation).
Spring Sex Fair
Every spring, VOX hosts its annual sex fair in the Campus Center. The fair is a tool we use to talk about sex in a fun, comfortable environment. It is a great event in which many groups around campus with similar or related interests to VOX's come together for one great day. There are games like condom races, cookie decorating, sexual mapping of the campus in which students put stickers on maps of the world and the campus for where they've had sex or masturbated. The Sex Fair is a great way to open the dialogue about sex while both giving out correct and up-to-date information, contraceptives and bringing the Tufts community together.
Roe v. Wade
Anniversary is in January. Look for an installation honoring the right for women to take control of their reproductive rights and choose!
Condom Initiative
VOX has been working for over two years now on getting free condoms back into the dorms. We have received permission from RezLife to go forward with our plans. Manilla envelopes with condoms, lube and dental dams will be place in convenient locations around the dorms starting Spring of 2010. We hope that you will both use and respect this resource as with its success we may be able to get funding directly from the university to continue this program. As of now, we are only able to use the VOX budget for condoms. Hopefully this resource will be valuable to students living in on-campus residences!
