Health Science Honors

Health Science Honors

Program Overview

Learn about the philosophy and practice of medicine. As a Health Science Honors student, you will attend weekly physiology and anatomy lectures and labs, learning about the human body and its functions. You will participate in an exclusive series of behind-the-scenes visits to area hospitals, clinics, and medical laboratories. Through group sessions and the observation of patient treatments, you will discover the importance of thorough and compassionate patient interviewing skills.

In addition, the Health Science Honors program will give you experience in physical examination skills and diagnostic reasoning and show you firsthand the specialized procedures in diagnostic imaging, invasive cardiology, and general surgery. Alternative therapies, such as acupuncture and mind-body techniques, are also included.

The course will be taught by Richard Glickman-Simon, MD, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Tufts School of Medicine, and other faculty and physicians. The team approach to instruction gives students meaningful interactions with multiple medical specialties and distinct points of view on patient care.

April 5, 2016 Update

Due to very early and high demand for admission to the Health Science Honors program, we have currently reached enrollment capacity. Tufts Summer Study has established an admissions waitlist sooner than expected.

The Health Science Honors Waitlist provides applicants with an opportunity to enroll in the program if space becomes available. A few seats may become available closer to the start of the program

In addition to the Health Science Honors Waitlist, we encourage you to consider another great program at Tufts this summer. If you are interested in science and medicine, you might consider our Bioinformatics Inquiry through Sequencing (BIOSEQ) Program.

You may also find our other pre-college programs to be a suitable fit:
Foundations of Law & Ethics
Tufts Summer Writing Program
College Courses for Seniors

Space is limited and the program fills up quickly, so the Admissions Committee recommends that you submit your application well in advance of the May 6 deadline for full consideration. A waitlist will be created once the course reaches capacity.

As your schedule permits, you can combine this class with another Tufts Summer Study program or course. You may request enrollment in two programs/courses if desired. The Tufts Summer Study Admissions Committee Reserves the right to limit enrollment to one program/class.
