Research
TEDCC is proud to help add new knowledge to the fields of child
development and early education. The research that happens in our
classrooms, conducted by faculty, students and teachers, enlivens
our thinking, fuels our discourse and helps to shape our curriculum.
In conjunction with the
Eliot-Pearson
Department of Child Development in Tufts' School of Arts and
Sciences, TEDCC functions as a laboratory school for students and
faculty where current theory and practice in early childhood
education is applied. Both undergraduate and graduate students
schedule daily appointments to observe interactions in the
classroom. In addition to this, faculty members have the opportunity
to do research at the Center. After completing a research request
form and obtaining consent from the families of the children at the
Center, faculty members and students are able to begin their
research projects.
Observations for students and faculty >
The Center has been used as one of the sites of research for
many years, and numerous projects have come from this
relationship. Past research projects include a taste
preference study, research on children's perceptions of
their bodies, and research on how children understand and
learn rules. The entire community benefits from these
projects and we have found research projects to be a
positive experience for all involved.
