TTTC Ping-Pong Tournament - Spring 2008
The Deal
Each semester the Tufts Table Tennis Club (TTTC) sponsers a school-wide ping-pong tournament. It is
open to any member of the Tufts community (student, faculty, staff, or alumni).
To play, you must sign up during the registration period. You will then be
randomly assigned to a single-elimination bracket, and must play your games against your assigned opponents during
the tournament time-frame (as determined by the club). Any issues or conflicts regarding arranging games or
completing games should be brought to the attention of the tournament organizers immediately in order to
facilitate the progress of the rest of the players.
The eventual winner of the bracket will receive a fabulous (although currently undetermined) prize.
The Signup
Sign-up is done by email. Registration ends Sunday, March 30, 2008. You must email your registration to
kevin.lui@tufts.edu in order to be part of the competition.
Once he receives all the registrations, he will create the brackets, and let you know who you are playing.
What you need to do: If you want to participate, email Kevin your Name, Email, and Phone.
You MUST email him by end-of-day on Sunday, March 30, 2008 so he can put the brackets together.
Once the bracket has been determined, you will be emailed the information regarding your first round game.
If you have questions, please contact Kevin Lui at kevin.lui@tufts.edu.
Time Frame
The tournament will start Monday, March 31, 2008 once the bracket has been determined. Each round of the
bracket will be played over a couple days, opponents meeting up on their own to play the games, and with reports being submitted
via email to Kevin. Further details will be contained in your registration-confirmation.
The Rules (basic "ping pong" rules)
Each match consists of 2 out of 3 games to 21. The server will switch every 5 serves. To determine
who serves first, the pair must either flip a coin or some other random selection agreed upon by both players. At match
point the service does not switch (i.e. there is no dead-man's serve), unless the server's 5 serves have expired. At
the end of each game the players must switch sides and whoever initially served the previous game will be the initial
receiver of the next game. If the match goes to a third game, the players may switch sides when the first player scores
11 points. A "let" is when a ball is served and it hits the net but continues over. Each player is allowed an unlimited
amount of "lets." The ball may be served either diagonally or straight across the table and need not go off the end of
the table or bounce only once on the opponent's side.
