Apply now!

Applications for a Tufts Pre-College Program or course are reviewed by an admissions committee. Admissibility is based on the quality of credentials submitted by the applicant. Tufts University reserves the right to admit as requested, to deny admission, or offer provisional admission. The program is will not provide feedback to applicants when admission is denied.

Decisions are made on a rolling basis and students typically hear within a few days. Terms of enrollment are stipulated in a Letter of Admission, which is sent to the student via the U.S. Postal Service. Students are asked to confirm admission within two weeks by submitting a non-refundable confirmation fee payment. Subsequent requests to change the terms of enrollment may be considered if made before the Pre-College Program begins.

Supporting Materials

Supporting materials needed to complete your Tufts Pre-College application.

  1. Two Letters of Recommendation from teachers, coaches, or others who know your academic abilities. Designate two references in your online application. An email will be sent to them asking for feedback using a web-based form.
  2. A short essay about a selected topic:
    1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
    2. Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?
    3. Many societies believe that the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human right. But it is also true that attainment of happiness remains elusive. Perhaps Bertrand Russell had it right when he said, “To be without some of the things you want is an indispensable part of happiness”. What gives us more pleasure and satisfaction: the pursuit of our desires or the attainment of them?
  3. Official academic transcripts that cover your school work since the 9th grade. Since these are official, your transcript(s) must be sent via the mail to:

    Tufts Pre-College Program
    Dowling Hall
    419 Boston Avenue
    Medford, MA 02155

  4. A $60 Application Fee Payment. Payable with a Visa or MasterCard through our application site.
  5. PSAT, SAT, or ACT score reports if they are available*. The most recent score(s) are sufficient. Please ensure you've submitted the full report with the score breakdown. You can upload these documents in our online application.

*Students taking courses for credit must submit a score from the ACT or SAT.

Please note that full admission to some summer classes may require a short placement exam to confirm readiness.

Note that after admission, you will be prompted to complete a number of disclosure forms and waivers. Participation is contingent upon completion of these forms. Please see this page for additional information.
