Course Number:      ED 0191B
Campus: Medford/Somer.
Room: Olin Center 116

Course Description:

Making art is a human right; it is a natural, basic need in humans. Access to meaningful art education for all students is a civil right in schools, regardless of a person's abilities or disabilities. Graduate Study in Art Education Design for Special Populations considers the role of the art educator with regard to visual culture and art making with special populations. Students will study the historical development of legislation and social movements that protect and service individuals with special needs. Emphasis will be placed on the art educator's role in supporting human and civil rights of students with special needs to a fair and least restrictive education. Specific research will focus on learners with special needs, designing instruction and support so that learners can freely create and express themselves through the art making process. Concepts, principles, and methods of integrating art processes into the education of all populations will be explored.
