Campus Services
Tufts Summer Session students can take advantage of the
university's many campus resources.
Academic Resource Center
The Academic Resource
Center provides free tutoring, study skills and time management
consulting, writing support, services for students with
disabilities, and a variety of other resources to both
graduate and undergraduate students. In addition to
one-on-one tutoring appointments, Summer Session Head Tutors
provide intensive support for students in Math, Chemistry 1
and 2, and Organic Chemistry in the form of drop-in hours,
review sessions, and individual tutoring sessions. To see

Athletics
Access to a full range of recreational facilities is
included in the program fee, including tennis courts,
swimming pool, track, gymnasium, softball fields, and a
variety of sports equipment.
Athletic facilities also include the Gantcher Family Sports
Center, a state-of-the-art athletics and convocation
facility, and the Lunder Fitness Center, which is housed in
the Ames Center for Human Performance and features 6,000
square feet of floor space. The Fitness Center includes two
complete circuits of Cybex Selectorized fitness machines, 28
aerobic machines (including Stairmasters, Lifecycles,
treadmills, Nordic Tracks, rowing machines, and Versa
Climbers), 40,000 pounds of free weights, and four pieces of
hammer strength equipment. Personal training with certified
trainers and body composition analysis are also available.

Blackboard
Blackboard is an e-Education
platform used by Tufts University faculty to facilitate class discussion and
information sharing outside of the classroom.

Bookstore
The Tufts University bookstore is a full-service bookstore with textbooks, university
apparel, gifts and accessories. Get store hours or buy books online at the
Tufts Bookstore web site.
Computer Services
Students may complete assigned course work in the Eaton Computer Lab on the
Medford campus. This lab is equipped with PC and Macintosh computers, laser
printers, flatbed scanners, and direct links to the Internet and Tufts host
services.
Dining
A wide variety of foods is offered on the Medford/ Somerville campus. The
Dewick-Macphie dining complex is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Monday
through Saturday, and brunch and dinner on Sunday. This market-style food court
can satisfy most appetites, with its array of freshly prepared sandwiches,
pizza, hot entrees, and vegetarian fare. Unlimited servings of all foods include
soups, salad bar, vegetables, fresh fruit, desserts, and beverages.
The Mayer Campus Center complex includes the Campus Center Commons, which offers
daily specials, made-to-order deli sandwiches, and a deluxe salad bar. The Brown
and Brew Coffee House, located in Curtis Hall, Medford (and with an outdoor
patio), is the place to go for a caffeine fix and simple fare. This bistro-like
eatery features international roasted coffees and teas, espresso, iced drinks,
and bottled beverages and a cafe menu offering sandwiches, pastry, and desserts.

Tufts Dining Services offers Summer Session students the
option of buying a standard meal plan or "points" in the
Medford/Somerville dining hall for each six-week session.
The following plans are available for each six-week session:
20-meal plan - $912
14-meal plan - $852
10-meal plan - $615
For students who wish to venture off-campus, there are a number of restaurants
along the perimeter of the Tufts campus, and several options in nearby Davis
Square.

Financial
Aid
Students who are fully matriculated Tufts University
students, should contact
Tufts
University's Financial Services office with questions
regarding financial aid for Summer Session. Students who are
enrolled at other universities are not eligible for Tufts
University financial aid and should contact their home
financial aid office for options. There are a limited number
of small scholarships available during either summer session
for fully matriculated Tufts University students. Priority
will go to the highest need students, particularly those who
are Pell grant recipients. Click here for further details

Health Services
Tufts students, and all visiting students, can choose to receive service from the
Medford/Somerville campus Health Service. The Medford/Somerville campus Health
Service provides most services that are available during the fall and spring.
Both Tufts and visiting students are eligible for services. Consultant services
such as dermatology, orthopedics, or gynecology, however, are not offered. The
Medford/ Somerville Health Service operates with a reduced staff consisting of a
nurse practitioner/ physician's assistant and a physician on duty. As there is
no blanket health fee during the summer months, a fee-for-service policy
applies. The Medford/ Somerville campus Health Service is located at 124

Housing
Summer Session
student housing is in Carmichael Hall, a coed residence hall on the
Medford/Somerville campus with single- and double-occupancy rooms. The residence
hall also has a common living room/recreation space, a laundry room with
coin-operated washers and dryers, vending machines, and a common-area
kitchenette. Air-conditioners and cooking appliances are not allowed.
Eligibility
Students enrolled in courses on the Medford/Somerville
campus may reside in university housing on the
Medford/Somerville campus.
Occupancy Period
First Session May 19-June 28
12-Week Session May 19-August 9
Second Session June 30-August 9
Please note that campus housing is not available after
August 9 for any reason. There is no on-campus storage
between August 9 and the fall semester.
Fees
The room charge is $660 for six weeks and $1320 for twelve
weeks.
Assignments
Applications
for housing are available online at ase.tufts.edu/reslife. Applications for the
First Session and the 12-Week Session are due by May 1; applications for the
Second Session are due by June 1. Applications (with payment information) must
be returned to Student Services in Dowling Hall after you register for
summer courses. Applications will only be accepted after course registration is
verified. Specific housing assignments and information on furnishings,
telephone services, and move-in logistics will be emailed beginning May 10th for
the First Session and the 12-Week Session, and June 15th for the Second Session.
Please note that the Office of Residential Life and Learning makes all summer
housing assignments. Although a limited number of single rooms are available on
a first-come, first-serve basis, please anticipate being assigned to a double
room and consider making a specific roommate request. Mutual roommate requests
will be honored on a space-available basis.
Cancellation
There will be
a $200 cancellation fee if your cancellation request is received after May 18th
for the First Session (or 12-Week Session) or June 15th for the Second Session.
If you cancel once the session has begun, you will be responsible for a prorated
charge in addition to the $200 cancellation fee. If you want to cancel a housing
request, you must put your cancellation in writing and submit it to the Office
of Residential Life and Learning. Notice to any other university office is not
sufficient.

Tufts undergraduates living on-campus during Spring 2008 who apply for summer
housing (First Session / 12-week Session Only): interim housing between May 10th

Library
All summer students have access to the Tisch Library, which includes a
collection of more than 850,000 volumes, 535,000 government publications,
102,000 maps, 990,000 microforms, 37,000 audiovisual items (including
videocassettes, laser discs and recordings, and DVDs), and a growing collection
of more than 300 electronic databases and 15,000 e-journals accessible to the
Tufts summer community via the Internet. The Tisch Library is air-conditioned,
has large study areas with views of Boston, many study carrels with electrical
connections for portable computers, media classrooms, viewing carrels, and

Olin Language Media Center
The Olin Center for Language and Culture Studies is fully equipped to offer
students opportunities to supplement their foreign language study by using
state-of-the-art A/V and media technologies. The Language Media Center includes
a language lab with numerous audio and video booths for self-paced instruction,
and a sixteen-station interactive computer lab. Students can receive technical
support for video productions in the large video studio and video editing room.

Parking & Transportation
Day or evening parking is available near classrooms, the gymnasium, and the
theater. Students should register for parking permits through the Office of
Public Safety at 419 Boston Avenue. The cost is $50. Parking is also available
in Dowling Hall Garage for an additional daily fee. Visit the

Tufts is easily accessible from many points by the MBTA subway and bus system.
The Davis Square/Tufts University stop on the Red Line is a short walk away.
Also, many bus routes connect Tufts directly to locations such as Medford,
Somerville, Arlington, Cambridge, Harvard Square, and Lechmere. Commuter train
connections are at Porter Square, South Station, West Medford, and North
