This course focuses on the developmental needs of art students in grades 5-12 with a particular emphasis on innovative classroom methods for art education. Students will engage with a variety of age-appropriate art materials in order to create lessons for diverse populations. The class will explore visual culture and inquiry-based approaches to art education through art-making and critical thinking. Through collaborative work, students are encouraged to connect theory with practice and to develop lesson plans and curricula that meet the needs of a wide variety of students in 5-12 grade level art settings.
