Course Description:

Recreational, leisure, and organized sports activities in the United States from the colonial period to the present. Emphasis on the emergence of organized professional and amateur sports from 1850 onward in the context of industrialization, urbanization, and immigration. Sports in the framework of American economic history, labor history, and social mobility; and race, ethnic, and gender relations.
