Academic Credit

All academic credit on Tufts Programs Abroad, including credit for attending host-country university courses, is awarded by Tufts. The resident director supervises and monitors students’ progress in order to ensure that all students obtain full credit for courses taken in each program. Grades are given by professors according to the grading system of each country. These grades are then converted by each resident director into the equivalent Tufts grades. Students are normally able to obtain four Tufts course credits or sixteen semester hours for each semester of study abroad which is equivalent to the normal load at Tufts.

Tufts students should keep in mind that while all courses taken on a Tufts program abroad will count toward graduation from Tufts University, it is up to each department to decide which courses will count toward the major. Students are advised to consult with their major department(s) regarding major credit for specific courses.
