Basic Study Abroad Timeline (to study abroad Junior Year)

Freshman Year
  •  
Consider language requirements for programs and enroll in appropriate courses.  Note: If you have never taken the language before, you may need to take intensive coursework or summer classes to get up to speed.
  •  
For initial information on the study abroad process, attend a atudy abroad general information meeting, talk to seniors who have studied abroad, and attend the September study abroad fair.
 

Sophomore year

  •  
Attend a study abroad general information meeting to learn the details of how to study abroad at Tufts
  •  
Attend the September study abroad fair to earn about programs
  •  
Attend Tufts Program informational pizza parties in the fall to learn more about Tufts options
  •  
Talk with your advisor regarding your interest in studying abroad
  •  
Tufts Programs Abroad applications for Junior year are due earlier than those for other programs.  Tufts in Oxford applications are due Dec.1st; all other Tufts Programs Abroad applications are due Feb.1st.
  •  
Non-Tufts applications for Fall & Full-year are due mid-March to mid-April
  •  
Students who will attend non-Tufts programs need to get departments to approve course for credit.
  •  
Leave of absence forms for those who will be attending a non-Tufts program are due April 30th for fall or full-year programs.
  •  
Residence Life deadline for housing status changes is April 30th.
  •  
Mandatory pre-departure meetings for fall and full-year programs (Tufts and non-Tufts) will be held during reading period in April/May
 

Junior Year

  •  
Spring program applications are due mid-Oct to mid-Nov. 
  •  
Students who will attend non-Tufts programs need to get professors to approve course for credit.
  •  
Leave of absence forms due Nov.30th for spring semester non-Tufts programs applicants. 
  •  
Mandatory pre-departure meetings for spring programs (Tufts and non-Tufts) will be held during reading period in December
  •  
Head off on your program and have fun!!
Senior Year
  •  
Students returning from Tufts and non-Tufts experiences need to hand-in an evaluation of their program.
  •  
Non-Tufts programs: ensure that you have handed in all of your "Transfer of Credit" petition forms and that your program is sending a transcript to Tufts.
  •  
Tufts & non-Tufts programs: Ensure that any major and distribution  requirements taken abroad have been approved, as needed.
  •  
Tufts & non-Tufts programs: File any remaining World Civ and/or Foreign Culture petitions, as needed.
  •  
Give back to the Tufts community and talk about your experience and your program to underclassmen.
