Lecturer Positions
Available for Spring 2010:
The Department of Sociology at Tufts University will be
hiring lecturers for the following courses for Spring
2010. Candidates should send a letter indicating the

Sociology 40: Media and Society:
Social and economic organization of the mass media of
communication. Effects on content. Themes of mass
culture. Social composition of the audience. Effects of
the media on the audience. Topics such as television,
films, the press, books, magazines, and advertising.
Sociology 149: Sociology of Culture:
Sociological investigation of culture, broadly defined
to include the meanings of cultural objects such as
religious symbols, consumer goods, and art, as well more
abstract meanings and values such as racial identity,
love, and nationalism. Classical and contemporary
theories of the sources and impact of cultural meanings.
Possible applications of the theories include “culture
wars,” social stratification, immigrant communities, and
various subcultures.
