FAQ

If you're wondering if rugby is the right sport for you, here are the answers to some of the first questions most players ask.

Do I have to try out?

You DO NOT have to try out! No one is cut and everyone plays. Because it is a club sport, all are welcome to join.

What if I'm small?

Rugby takes all shapes and sizes. Believe it or not, we need people who are short or tall, strong or fast, coordinated or... well, we would prefer it you were at least a little coordinated, but the point is that rugby is unique in that we aren't looking for a particular body shape or size. There is a position for just about every body type you can think of.

What if I've never played before?

There are very few girls high school teams smattered around the county. 95% of the players on the team never played before they came to Tufts. This equalizing factor leads to great competition between schools and early bonding between teammates. Some of the best rugby players are ex-soccer, basketball, lacrosse, or field hockey players. Even if you've never played a sport before, you can still come out to the practices and find your inner athlete.

When are practices?

Practices are Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6:30pm. Games are on Saturdays, usually in the late morning.

What are practices like?

Like other sports, practices will consist of endurance and fitness training, ball handling, passing, kicking, and receiving drills. Earlier practices will be slower with more concentration on the rules of the game, but practices will quickly evolve into scrimmages and game situations.

Where are practices?

Practices are held on the field behind the football field near South Hall. Walk through the brick archway leading to the football field. Bear right on the path and keep the fields house and football field on your left. Walk through the waist-high chainlink fence and bear left. We will be just around the corner.
