introduction
The Tufts University Rugby Football Club exists to provide students with an opportunity to learn an exciting, physical, fast-paced, and different game. We encourage anyone with an athletic background to give rugby a try. EXPERIENCE IS NOT NECESSARY. Come on out and learn the game - we'll teach you.

Current members have backgrounds ranging from tennis to football to no sports. SIZE IS NOT A PREREQUISITE! Some of our best ruggers are the smaller guys. The only thing you need is a desire to practice hard and to learn the game. If you decide not to play, please come out and support the Tufts Rugby team. Your support means a lot to us.

about our team
The Tufts Men's Rugby Team is a Division III club team. We play teams from colleges in the surrounding area. Due to the great success we have had in past years, we hope to be moving up to Division II in the next few years. We play YEAR-ROUND, so feel free to come by and watch a practice or one of our games, or call one of our officers with questions at any time. We are always accepting new players.

practices
We practice Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30-6:30 on the field past the track next to the South tennis courts. We play weekly games on Friday nights, Saturdays, and Sundays.

social life
In addition to high-quality athletics, members of the Tufts RFC are able to experience a social atmosphere that is unique to rugby players around the world. It is custom for the home team to host a party after every match, where both teams get together and socialize, putting all game-time differences aside. The social aspect of the game is just as important as the athletics, and it is something that can't be described - only experienced.

history
The Tufts Men's Rugby Team has enjoyed tremendous success in the past:
  • In 2004, we took second at both the New England and Northeast D3 Championships.
  • In 2001, we won the New England D3 Championships and took second at the Northeast D3 Championships.
  • 2000 was a dominant year with an undefeated regular season and an undefeated postseason. We won both the New England D3 Championships and the Northeast D3 Championships.
  • In 1998, we took second in the New England D3 Championships.
  • In 1996, we won the New England D3 Championships.
  • In 1987, we won the New England D2 Championships.

The team also had several strong years during the late 1980s. We won the New England D2 Championships and moved up to Division 1 the next year. That season, we compiled a 2-3 or 3-2 record in a very tough division, competing against Holy Cross, BU, BC, Harvard, and Northeastern. We fielded 4 sides during those years, had about 70 players, and had several All New England selections.
