Graduate Study
Master of Arts in French
The Department offers a Master of Arts in French, requiring ten
semester courses; two of these may be Independent Studies, guided by
a Faculty adviser, in preparation for a general examination. The
program, which can be completed in a year, usually leads to a
secondary school teaching position or to a doctoral program at a
major university, although several of our graduates have followed
other careers. Scholarship assistance is available.
Deadlines for application to the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences
(GSAS) are February 15 for matriculation in the Fall Term 2010 and
October 15 for matriculation in the Spring Term 2011. For further
information, contact the
designated Graduate Adviser.
Master of Arts in Teaching
The Department of Romance Languages collaborates with the Tufts
Department of Education, which offers a Master of Arts in Teaching
degree with concentration in either French or Spanish. For further
information, contact the
designated Faculty Liaisons to the Education Department.
Teacher Training and Certification
The Department of Romance Languages collaborates with the Tufts
Department of Education in the training and certification of both
undergraduate and graduate students as public school teachers of
French or Spanish. For further information, contact the
designated Faculty Liaisons to the
Education Department.
The Office of Graduate Studies
The Office of Graduate Studies, which serves the Graduate School
of Arts & Sciences (GSAS), sponsors a
Web site
providing information on applying to graduate programs, expenses and
financial aid, application requirements and deadlines, and much
more. Links to some of the material on the site are provided below:
- How to Apply
- Application Requirements and Deadlines
This link gives access to the "Requirements and Deadlines" page of
the GSAS site. Once there, all applicants should click on
"Requirements and Deadlines by Program" and scroll down to the
information on the program in French. After this, International
Students should return to the "Requirements and Deadlines" page of
the GSAS site and click on "Requirements and Deadlines for
International Students." Please note, in particular, that the
application deadlines for International Students are different from
those for Domestic Students.
- Request a Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Catalog
- TuftsPlus Program
The TuftsPlus program offers 50% tuition scholarships to Tufts
undergraduates who are admitted to a participating Master's program.
It also offers a streamlined application process in which the GRE
requirement is waived and only two letters of recommendation are
required.
- Take A Class
You don't need to be a graduate student to take Tufts graduate
courses. The Graduate Career Advancement Program (GCAP) was created
for people who want access to superior graduate-level courses but
don't need or want a graduate degree. GCAP students take the same
classes as our graduate students and may enroll, for either credit
or audit, in up to four undergraduate or graduate courses per
semester.
- Contact the Office of Graduate Studies
- Graduate Student Handbook
Published annually, the Graduate Student Handbook contains
important dates, policies and procedures, requirements, and
graduation information concerning current Arts, Sciences, and
Engineering graduate students.
- Funding Opportunities
There are a variety of outside funding opportunities for Arts &
Sciences graduate students. Some of these opportunities are
discipline-specific; others pertain to graduate study in general.
- Alma Matters Magazine
Alma Matters is the magazine for Arts, Sciences, and Engineering
graduate alumni and graduate students. Published twice a year, it
highlights the work of Tufts alumni, students, and programs.
- Alma Matters-Plus
Published quarterly, Alma Matters-Plus is the e-newsletter for Tufts
Arts, Sciences, and Engineering graduate alumni, graduate students,
faculty, and staff. Each issue highlights the work of Tufts alumni,
students, and programs.
