FYE: The First-Year Experience Program

What is FYE?

Here at the Office of Residential Life and Learning, we believe the first semester of your first-year experience will set the tone for your entire collegiate career. That's why we've created a semester of programs happening right in your halls to launch your careers as Jumbos on an upbeat, engaging start!

After all the excitement of Orientation and Matriculation, the FYE will provide you with additional opportunities to get to know the other members of your residential communities while setting you up with all you need to know to successfully transition to college living. FYE is open to all first-year students, regardless of what residence hall in which they reside.

FYE: Keeping the Unity in Community!

The mission of the Office of Residential Life and Learning is to provide students with a comprehensive living experience characterized by safety, comfort, respect, and free exchange of dialogue within and beyond our residence halls. The Office Residential Life and Learning is committed to keeping the unity into our residence hall communities!

FYE builds a strong first-year residential community on campus.

By attending FYE, you'll be able to meet and socialize with other first-year students within your own hall as well as in other residence halls. You will be able to develop a strong community identity and to value the concept of civility and character within the residential community.

FYE connects students with the academic and campus resources they need to succeed in their first year of college.

By attending FYE, you'll be able to identity the academic resources within their community as well as academic support resources on campus such as the ARC, your Academic Deans, Resident Head Tutors, and more. You'll able to engage in discussion with peers and faculty on the Common Reading Book and connect directly with faculty via our Scholar-in-Residence program.

FYE introduces students to key concepts of healthy lifestyle and wellness habits necessary for a successful first-year experience.

By attending FYE, you'll be able to make healthier choices (food, fitness, alcohol/drugs) for a more balanced college experience. You'll be able to recognize the signs of unhealthy relationships (roommate conflicts, dating, sexual assault, etc.) and know what resources are available to them to resolve relationship conflict. You'll be able to attend non-alcohol focused social events on typical party nights.
