Event Registration Policy
This year the Department of Residential Life and
Learning is committed to providing an avenue for
resident students at Tufts University to host enjoyable,
safe and successful social events. In order for students
to host such social events some simple guidelines must
be followed. If students living on campus would like to
host a social event where the attendance will be 50 or
more people, they must follow the protocol listed below.
- The host of the social event must register it
with Carrie Ales, Coordinator of Community Standards
and Judicial Processes in the Office of Residential
Life and Learning in South Hall.
- The event must be registered at least Seven
(7) business days prior to the date of the
event.
- During the registration meeting with Carrie, the
following items will be discussed: date of event,
start/end time, location of event, approximate
attendance (and who will keep track of numbers),
will alcohol be served, how much alcohol and how
will it be served, who will serve it (server MUST be
21 years of age or older), who will ID the
attendants of the event, how will the drinking be
monitored, etc.
- When deemed appropriate, a pre-event
consultation may be scheduled with the event host(s)
by Carrie Ales and TUPD. The purpose of a
consultation will be to discuss safety issues,
access to the event, timeframe issues, and when
appropriate noise control and distribution of
alcohol. The consultation will result in a plan on
how the event will run.
During the event
TUPD or a member(s) of the Residential Life and
Learning staff may conduct a site visit to check on how
the event is going and to address any issues. At any
time hosts may ask the visiting officer(s)/staff
member(s) to assist with crowd control issues. Also,
hosts are encouraged to call TUPD at any time during the
event if assistance is needed.
Please note that if an event is not being run safely
or according to the consultation plan (if one took
place) the officer(s)/staff member(s) may issue a
warning with the expectation that the problems will be
corrected in order for the event to continue.
Blatant disregard for policy or law may result in
immediate closure at the time of the first site visit!
If any students have questions regarding the Event
Registration Policy, please contact Carrie Ales in the
Office of Residential Life and Learning at 627-2818 or
email her at Carrie.Ales@tufts.edu.
Best wishes for an enjoyable and successful semester! |
