Students can easily access Housing Selection information via the ORLL Website (http://ase.tufts.edu/reslife), the Housing Selection Booklet, or by stopping by our office which is located in South Hall, open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm, to ask any questions.  Students may also call the office at (617) 627-3248.

  2. How are lottery numbers assigned?
Your lottery number is assigned by a random number generator program within ranges for each class year.

  6. Can rising Juniors and Seniors who are planning not to live on campus for the 2009-2010 academic year give their lottery numbers away?
Students may not give their lottery numbers away because the numbers are generated by class year only by a computer program.

  7. I'm a transfer student and I have not received a lottery number. When can I expect to?
Any transfer student who did not receive a lottery number should contact the ORLL.

  8. I'm currently abroad this semester and plan on living on campus in Fall 2009 and have not received a lottery number.  When can I expect to receive it?
Students who are abroad should contact the ORLL as soon as possible.  Those going abroad for the fall cannot sign up for housing the following year.

  9. I am abroad for the Spring 2009 semester and would like to select housing for the 2009-2010 academic year.  What should I do?
In order to select housing, students who are abroad should select a "proxy."  Students may do one of the following:

    1. Email a friend giving them permission to come to the ORLL to complete the Proxy form to serve as proxy.
    2. Email ORLL (reslife@tufts.edu) and we will act as the student's proxy.

In both cases please provide either proxy with 4-6 room assignment choices.  All proxy forms for students wishing to select on-campus apartments, co-ops, or special interest housing must be submitted to ORLL no later than February 09, 2009 (Sophia, February 13, 2009.)  All proxy forms for students wishing to select from general housing must be submitted to ORLL by no later than February 27, 2009.

  10. What if I cannot attend the Housing Selection due to a class conflict?
    See proxy answer above.

  11. What if I attend Housing Selection and there are no more spaces available to select?
    • For rising Sophomores: Sophomores are guaranteed a space on campus.  If there are no more spaces available your name will be placed on a waiting list.  You will be contacted as spaces become available.
    • For rising Juniors/Seniors: Students who wish to live on campus may place their name on the waiting list.  As spaces allotted for Juniors and Seniors become available, the ORLL will contact students in order by lottery number.

  12. I'm a rising Sophomore, can I select a single?
There are a limited number of singles allotted for sophomores based on class size each year.  These rooms are on a first come first serve basis determined by your lottery number.

  13. What if I don't have a roommate by the time I have to select an assignment?
We encourage all students to select a roommate prior to making a room selection.  If not, the ORLL will be hosting a Roommate Connection Reception on February 5, 2009 to assist students in finding roommates.

  14. What if the roommate I select an assignment with goes abroad for either Fall 2008 or the entire 2009-2010 academic year?
Students remaining in the room will have 72 hours (three business days) to pull in a student.  If this cannot occur the ORLL will provide a roommate for you.

  15. I am a rising Sophomore, but I do not wish to live on campus for the 2009-2010 academic year.  What should I do?
At this time, all first year and sophomore students are required to live on campus.  Tufts University has a 2-year residency requirement for its students on the Medford/Somerville campus.  Exceptions are made for students who are commuting.  In order to commute, students must provide documentation stating that they will be living with a relative.  Documentation will include a photo ID of the relative with proof that they are indeed 25 years or older.  Students will also be required to meet with the Director of Residential Life and Learning.  Final approval will then be determined by the Director and a member of the Dean of Students staff.

  16. I am a rising Sophomore and will be living in a Fraternity or Sorority for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Please fill out the "Intent to reside in Fraternity/Sorority Housing" form and submit it to the ORLL by no later than 5:00pm on February 16, 2009.  Forms are located in ORLL.

  17. What do I do if I want to live in a theme house?
Plan to attend one of their info meetings that will be posted in the daily.  You should stop by the different offices to pick up an application and follow their process.

  18. What do I do if I plan to transfer?
Students planning on transferring should first read the Campus Housing Billing and Cancellation Policies in the Tufts University Undergraduate Housing Agreement.
