Article
I: Title
Section
I: The name of the Organization shall be Radix.
Article
II: Purpose
Section
I: The purpose of this organization shall be:
(a):
to facilitate the proliferation of liberal ideas through the use of
media.
(b):
to provide an inclusionary outlet for students to express ideas through
prose, poetry, and art.
(c):
to provide the student body with insightful national and campus news
analysis.
(d):
to print and distribute no less than one edition of the Radix
publication in a given semester. (e): to empower students through the equal distribution of power within Radix.
Section
II: Radix will function as a positive change agent to promote diversity
and excellence at all levels within the community and to ensure that
there are no barriers to equal opportunity and the advancement of all
qualified individuals as listed under Article IV, Section I.
Section III: Amendments to Article II change the purpose of the organization and thus merit the strict evaluation of the Tufts Community Union Judiciary (TCUJ).
Article
III: Membership Section I: Membership will be open to any undergraduate or graduate member of the Tufts community who has paid their student activities fee.
Article
IV: Scope of Fellowship Section I: Non-Discrimination Policy: Radix prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, ethnic or national origin, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, or disability. This policy is understood to include self-acceptance of one's identity.
Section
II: Affirmative Action Policy (a): Radix is in compliance with equal opportunity statutes and executive orders aimed at eliminating the present effects of past discrimination.
(b):
It would be impossible for Radix to fulfill Article II, Section II and
Article II, Section I (b) without a diverse membership.
If at any point Radix is lacking
in diversity, the organization will concentrate on diversifying its
membership instead of publishing, except as provided in Article II,
Section I (b).
Section
I: Meetings shall be held weekly throughout the academic year. Article
VI: Decision-making Process Section I: A concerted effort must be made to have all decisions reached by consensus. Section II: An effort must be made to announce agenda items prior to the meeting via email or otherwise. Section III: Any person who attends a Radix meeting shall be considered a member and allowed to participate in the decision-making process. Section IV: There shall be one standing committee, of whose membership shall be decided by consensus by the membership, that will prepare proposals for the purposes of expediting the decision-making process. Said proposals must be approved by the membership for enactment. Section V: Every committee of Radix, standing or ad hoc, must comply with the decision-making process outlined in this Constitution.
Section
VI: Any member(s) of Radix may make a proposal.
Section VII: All members of Radix shall preside as officers.
Article
VII: Amendments
Section
I: Any member may present a proposed amendment to the Constitution to
the membership at large during any meeting.
Section II: If the membership approves the amendment, the amendment will take effect immediately unless otherwise stated in the amendment.
Article VIII: Selection of Officers
Section
I: All members of Radix shall preside as officers.
Section
II: Officer positions include, but are not limited to (except under
Article VIII, Section III): one signatory, one national affairs editor,
one campus affairs editor, one cultural editor, one arts editor, one
graphics editor, staff writers, staff photographers, staff layout
persons, webmaster, minister of propaganda, and any other position(s)
that the membership deems necessary except as limited under Article
VIII, Section III.
Section III: Radix will not have an Editor-in-Chief
Article IX: Duties of the Officers
Section I: The duties of all officers will be determined by
consensus at the first meeting of each semester except as provided in
Article IX, Section II and Article IX, Section III.
Section
II: The signatory will sign all forms related to the transfer of student
activity funds as mandated by the TCUJ.
The duty of the signatory may change as mandated by the TCUJ.
Section III: The duties of the editors shall include, but are not limited to: collection, editing, and laying out of their respective page(s) for each issue.
Article X: Impeachment of Officers
Section
I: The signatory may be impeached when he or she conducts fiscal
decisions without the expressed consent of the membership of Radix.
Section II: Any officer of the standing committee may be impeached when he or she fails in fulfilling the duties assigned to him or her as defined under Article IX, Section I.
Section III: Charges for impeachment may be brought by any member of Radix.
Section
IV: Impeachment is decided by consensus whereas all members of the
meeting may participate except for the accused.
Section
V: Should impeachment occur, the signatory will still be considered a
member of Radix if they choose to do so.
The impeachment process must comply with all TCUJ rules and
regulations.
Section VI: The membership has the power to revoke the accused signatory of his or her powers immediately by consensus, whereby the accused signatory does not have the power to break consensus. This power is given to the membership in order to ensure the fiscal safety of Radix and is to be used prudently. |
