I am interested in how people view their successes and failures. To address this question, I have investigated autobiographical memories of times when people felt especially good or especially bad about themselves from childhood to middle age and across cultures. Also, I am interested in consequences of people’s definitions of success and failure. For example, I examined how types of success and failure situations relate to social and academic functioning in early adolescents. My current research investigates how men and women make decisions about their successes and failures in gender stereotyped areas. Other interests include emotion expression and regulation, and development of creative achievement.
