Transfer Credits and Study Abroad
To have courses from other institutions accepted for Tufts political
science credit, transfer students must:
- Ask the Dean's office to certify that the work is acceptable for Tufts
course credit, and how much credit is appropriate; and
- Obtain the signature either of the department representative at the
transfer-of-credit meeting during orientation, or of the Department's
transfer-of-credit adviser.
Transfer credit for Political Science courses taken in summer school
at another institution, or courses not taken as part of a Tufts
program, must receive prior approval from the student's Political
Science adviser or from the transfer-of-credit adviser. Students
should support such requests with course catalogue descriptions and
other relevant information. Course work abroad should ordinarily be
done through an American-sponsored program, although students may
apply for direct admission to some foreign institutions (e.g., the
London School of Economics). All students enrolling in foreign study
programs other than those run directly by Tufts University must obtain
prior approval from the Academic Dean's office, in addition to
departmental approval of courses for transfer credit according to the
procedures outlined above. Professor David Art reviews all requests for
course credit from foreign institutions. This advance consultation and
approval is crucial because students sometimes do not receive credit
for work abroad which is not deemed appropriate for Tufts course
credit. Sources of information on programs abroad are the foreign
study adviser in the Academic Dean's office and the International
Center.
