David Art's field is comparative politics, with a regional focus on Europe.
His courses include Introduction to Comparative Politics, European Politics, The
Politics of European Integration, Globalization, and Fascism and the Far Right.
Professor Art's research interests include extremist political parties and
movements, the politics of history and memory, and comparative historical
analysis in the social sciences. His book The Politics of the Nazi Past in
Germany and Austria was published by Cambridge University Press in 2006. His
current book project, provisionally titled How Radical Right Parties Organize
and under contract with Cambridge University Press, examines why contemporary
radical right political parties have done well in some European states and not
in others. His articles have appeared in Comparative Politics, German
Politics and Society, Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social
Science, and Party Politics. Art is Co-Convenor of the European
Consortium for Political Research's (ECPR) Standing Group on Extremism and
Democracy. During the 2008-2009 academic year, he will be a Max Weber
Postdoctoral Fellow at the European University Institute.
