In 2002 F.I.T. was introduced by the Department of
Physical Education and Athletics in an effort to encourage students
to live healthy lifestyles during their undergraduate studies at
Tufts University. The media has been quick to talk about the habits
of college students, as demonstrated by the many reports on alcohol,
binge drinking, unhealthy eating habits and the general downward
spiral of college life.
In collaboration with the Gerald J. & Dorothy R. Friedman School of
Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, F.I.T. students
have the opportunity to learn about the Tufts Longitudinal Health
Study (TLHS). Christina Economos’ research has shown that college
students indeed do not lead the healthiest of lifestyles.
Significant findings in both dietary intakes, bone health and
exercise are topics that have brought significant attention about
the wellness of college students. For information go to:

F.I.T. is proud of its work with various departments on campus
including: Counseling Center, Dean of Students Office, Dining
Services, Health Services, LGBT Center, Tufts Personalized
Performance Program, Residential Life, University Police, Women’s
Center, in bringing this program together. Students leave their pens
and papers behind to enjoy four days of adventure before orientation
starts on September 1st. Thirty seven peer leaders, many who are
F.I.T. graduates, will lead the students in everything from fitness
training, games, yoga & pilates, outdoor adventures (sailing,
kayaking, rock climbing) and discussions on college life at Tufts
University.
Highlights from the Class of 2012 included the infamous finale and a
cruise on the Boston Harbor on the last day of the program. We look
forward to more wonderful memories from the Class of 2013!
