COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
PE 05 SAILING credit
Introduction to the basics of sailing. Students will travel to the Mystic Lakes under the tutelage of varsity Coach Ken Legler.
 
PE 06 YOGA & YOGALATES credit
Yoga is primarily a system of body-oriented meditation; provides a way of strengthening and healing the body through exercises, relaxation.
 
PE 23 ROCK CLIMBING credit
Fee $285
Students learn basic safety, how to be self sufficient in a top-rope environment, develop basic climbing ability and skill. Fee includes rental and semi-private instruction with qualified staff. 5 classes held in MetroRock, 2 outdoor trips, 1 day pass.
 
PE 32 SQUASH I credit
Introduction to basic squash skills with emphasis on techniques and strategies.
Prerequisite: PE 32A or consent.
 
PE 33 TENNIS I credit
Introduction to basic strokes, body mechanics, and basic tactics. During inclement weather the class meets in the Gantcher Center.
 
PE 34 TENNIS II credit
Advanced shots and tactics for students with consistent basic strokes. During inclement weather class meets in the Gantcher Center.
Prerequisite: Tennis I or Consent
 
PE 41 GOLF credit
Basic background knowledge and experience in various elementary strokes. When weather allows students will do at least one day trip to the golf course.
 
PE 43 MUSCLE CONDITIONING credit
Introduction to use of free weights & resistance bands to improve muscular endurance & strength. Flexibility & toning exercises are included in the rigorous workout to music! Emphasis safety & lifetime fitness.
 
PE 45 PILATES credit
Body & mind integration of achieving efficient movement, alignment, breathing and body awareness. Muscular stretching & strengthening for beginners, athletes and dancers.
 
PE 46 WEIGHT TRAINING credit
Introduction to weight training activities through use of resistance exercises, free weights, and mechanical apparatus. Emphasis on various exercises, techniques, safety, & physiological benefits of strength, muscle tone and power.
 
PE 47 STEP AEROBICS credit
Low impact, rhythmic exercise, and aerobic movements to music. Emphasis on safety, enjoyment, and lifetime adherence to fitness.
 
PE 110 INDEPENDENT STUDY 1 credit
Guided individual study of a topic approved by the Physical Education Department or Athletics. Students must present a research paper & participate in on-campus field work.
Prerequisite: Consent
 
PE131 EMERGENCY CARE 1 credit
Fee $450
Class instruction prepares students to take the state EMT course. Additional hours are required for selected Saturdays. Freshman and sophomores have registration priority.
 
PE 145 ADVANCED PRINCIPLES OF EXERCISE 1 credit
Focus on developing an understanding of physiology and its relationship with athletic performance. Students will learn theory, principles and application of effective strength techniques while working as "personal trainers" with students in PE 146.

PE 150 BODYWORKS 1 credit
Fee $50
Focus on anatomy, structural bodywork and functional assessment. Students will be engaged in learning touch techniques, muscle testing, trigger points, palpation and stretching. Working knowledge of muscle testing, therapeutic massage and relaxation techniques.
