Uriel Meshoulam is your typical graduate student: married, two children (both
still under thirty), and not having much else to do. Born and raised in
Israel, he served in the Israeli Air Force (air traffic controller), graduated
from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Psychology major), and moved to the
U.S. in 1970 for graduate school. After finishing his Ph.D. in Clinical
Psychology from SUNY Albany, he did his internship at Harvard University.
Captivated by Cambridge, he stayed there ever since, practicing clinical
psychology.
The focus of his theoretical orientation in psychology is
constructivist, along the lines of G.A. Kelly’s Personal Construct Psychology,
and Piaget’s Genetic Epistemology. It took him many years to discover that it
is a small step to take from his area of interest in psychology to philosophy.
Last year he mustered the courage and decided to go back to school. He enjoys
not having to take seriously the question “What are you going to do with it
after graduation?”
