Welcome to Museum Studies at Tufts University | |||
|
When today's museum professionals talk, you hear about the energy of
their institution, the involvement of the community, and the "hows"
and "whys" of making exhibitions and programs interactive—talk you
didn't hear thirty five years ago. Just as museum vocabulary changes over time, so do the skills professionals need. Today's museum professionals are problem-solvers, educators, administrators, and logistical experts. They are people who understand not only the information that their collections hold, but how to tell their stories. They understand how light and moisture can negatively affect an object and how to lessen the damage. And it is their passion that creates a living, vibrant institution. At Tufts, you study with museum professionals who understand all of this and more. Our program draws not only on the expertise of professionals from a wide variety of area institutions, but also from a rich array of university resources, including two galleries, three academic departments, and an affiliated art school. These connections create a dynamic setting for people new to the field, as well as people already in museums, to further explore the changing world of museums. Whatever path you have taken, Tufts may be the place for you. And once you arrive, you can personalize your program by taking just one or two courses, earning a certificate, or transferring your Museum Studies courses into a related master's degree. |
