About Muslim Student Association at Tufts
The Muslim Students Association at Tufts (MSAT), founded in 1987,
is committed to serve the needs of Muslim students at Tufts
University and to promote Islamic awareness and tolerance within the
Tufts community and neighborhood. Located in the suburbs of Boston,
Tufts provides a unique and complimentary setting for Muslims who
desire a strong educational and religious environment.
The MSAT has a proud history of 15 years in which we setup a
residential unit, the Muslim House. As a medium-size student
organization, MSAT has struggled with many problems and
shortcomings; however, with the grace of God, we have overcome most
of the hurdles. With a new generation of dedicated and committed
students, membership has increased threefold and the future is full
of hope.
Past MSAT activities have included Eid parties which attracted
over 100 Muslim and non-Muslim students, Jumma prayers, Ramadan
iftar dinners, hosting Senator John Kerry’s lecture at Fletcher
School of Law and Diplomacy, participation in intercollegiate MSA
activities, and a host of lectures, talks, and discussions on Islam.
In light of recent tragedies, MSAT has extended its hand to the
Tufts community and has been warmly received. Joint activities with
the Dean of Students office, Chaplain’s office, Asian-American
Center, Hillel, and other groups on campus has further integrated
Muslims into the community while maintaining an Islamic identity.
