About the HFM Program

HFM is a comprehensive, voluntary, newborn home visiting program for all first-time parents ages 20 and under in the state of Massachusetts. Based on the Healthy Families America (HFA) model for home visiting, HFM provides parenting support, information, and services to young parents, beginning prenatally and continuing until the child’s third birthday. Since its inception, HFM has provided services to over 18,000 families.  The stated goals of the program are:

  • To prevent child abuse and neglect by supporting positive, effective parenting;
  • To achieve optimal health, growth, and development in infancy and early childhood;
  • To encourage educational attainment, job, and life skills among parents;
  • To prevent repeat pregnancies during the teen years; and
  • To promote parental health and well-being.

HFM program services include home visits, goal-setting activities, group-based activities, and linkages and referrals to other resources.
