The Mechanical Engineering Department strives to maintain a faculty of recognized engineering educators and scholars supported by a dedicated staff.
Faculty design and teach undergraduate and graduate courses, edit various journals, advise theses and dissertations, organize conferences, publish research articles and books, and serve as advisors for student organizations such as the Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Human Factors Engineering Society. Their individual and collaborative research is supported by grants from places as varied as the National Science Foundation, NASA, Intel, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and LEGO. Faculty involvement goes even beyond the university and the industry, as illustrated by initiatives such as the K-12 Engineering Educational Outreach project.
