The College Positive Corps
The College Positive Corps is the AmeriCorps*VISTA Summer Associates program run through Massachusetts Campus Compact. The 2011 College Positive Corps will support campus and community partnerships focused on an efficient pipeline to higher education, strengthening student support systems and fostering a campus-wide commitment to access and success for all students.
Massachusetts Campus Compact
Massachusetts Campus Compact (MACC) is a nonprofit coalition of college and university presidents committed to developing the civic skills of students, building partnerships with the community, and integrating civic engagement with teaching and research. MACC has hosted an AmeriCorps*VISTA program since 1997. Through the MACC AmeriCorps*VISTA program, AmeriCorps*VISTA members are placed on host campuses throughout Massachusetts to serve as community service and service learning specialists. The MACC AmeriCorps*VISTA program helps colleges and universities to better respond to pressing issues facing low-income communities by improving the quality of campus-community service and service learning programs, and by increasing the number of students coordinating programs and directly serving in the community.
AmeriCorps*VISTA
AmeriCorps*VISTA is a national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Through *VISTA, volunteers live in the communities they serve, designing programs that will continue after they complete their service. Part of the AmeriCorps national network of service programs, *VISTA has been meeting the needs of under-served communities since 1965. Over the years, more than 100,000 committed individuals have joined forces with 12,000 local sponsors--public agencies and nonprofit groups--to strengthen communities across the nation.
AmeriCorps*VISTA Summer Associates
Summer Associates is a short-term summer service opportunity where individuals participate alongside year-round *VISTAs. Summer Associates work to enhance an existing *VISTA poverty alleviation project. They are like *VISTAs in that they work to build the capacity of the project and program they support through indirect service, but Summer Associates also may perform direct service as “hands-on” volunteers.
