Go Green!
"No institutions in modern society are better equipped to catalyze the
necessary transition to a sustainable world than universities."
- David Orr, Director, Environmental Studies Program, Oberlin College
At their core, environmental issues are issues of civic engagement. Effective
engagement in our communities necessitates active stewardship of our natural
resources; innovative approaches to the challenges of scarcity, climate change,
and energy security; and ensuring that the work of preserving our natural world
advances principles of equity and social justice. Institutions of higher
education and community-based organizations are uniquely capable of driving
change to improve both the sustainability and quality of life in communities
when they work in partnership with one another. The involvement of students in
this collaborative work can make an invaluable contribution to their development
as active citizens.
As an organization committed to advancing civic engagement and community
involvement among colleges and universities across the state, MACC is launching
a new initiative to support collaborative projects that address pressing
environmental issues from a local perspective.
