New Campus Compact Publications
Three new books will be released in July/August:
"Students as Colleagues: Expanding the Circle of Service-Learning Leadership
This highly anticipated volume demonstrates how service-learning can develop
student leaders while meeting academic and community goals. Models from campuses
across the country highlight best practices in identifying, recruiting, and
training student leaders; using students as staff; establishing student-faculty
partnerships; and providing opportunities for students to act as academic
entrepreneurs. (279 pages; $37 members, $49 nonmembers)
"Raise Your Voice: A Student Guide to Making Positive Social Change This
hands-on guide speaks directly to student leaders seeking to improve the
effectiveness of their engaged work. It includes targeted strategies, tools, and
activities for organizing change on campus, with topics ranging from holding
civic dialogues to meeting with elected officials, and from mapping assets on
campus to organizing alternative breaks. NOTE: This book includes a version of
the Lessons Learned statement, which will also be sold separately (see below).
(148 pages, $28 members, $37 nonmembers)
"Lessons Learned on the Road to Student Civic Engagement is a student-written
statement that reflects on three years of success in mobilizing students during
Campus Compact's Raise Your Voice campaign. It includes a discussion of how to
overcome barriers to engagement, a new working definition of civic engagement, a
look at the role of higher education in preparing students for public life, and
ideas for how to begin the process of building a civically engaged campus. (46
pages; $8.00 members, $10.00 nonmembers)
