Why did you join MACC VISTA: I didn't know what I wanted to do after graduation, and I'd heard positive things about AmeriCorps. I've always been interested in higher education and figured a year of service would be a great learning experience.
What can students contribute to local community based organizations? I've always felt that students have an obligation to give back to the community where they are going to school. For many cities, residents view an institution of higher education as not just a place of learning, but as an intricate part of the community, be it through athletics, the arts, or service. Community partnerships between a college and local organizations help give the student a sense of belonging and provide an invaluable service to the organization.
