Why did you join MACC VISTA: I joined MACC VISTA because I wanted to contribute to the community while gaining experience working in higher education. I felt that MACC VISTA would be a great role to challenge myself and gain leadership experience, something that's often difficult to achieve at an entry level job fresh out of college.

Why should higher ed institutions have a commitment to access to higher education? A college education is becoming increasingly valuable for people to advance in the working world. Yet, lower-income and first-generation students have the odds stacked against them. They often lack the necessary finances and support in learning about and applying to colleges.

Colleges and universities need to step up their involvement in spreading the message of college to all students. College awareness and scholarship programs should begin at the middle school level, so that every child can envision themselves going to college. Not every student may want to attend college, but every student should have the opportunity to do so.
