About Us: Programs
The Tufts University Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a community of "seasoned citizens"
with a wide range of interests in literature, art, theatre, music, local, national or international
current events and history. Members have the opportunity to participate as a study group leader in
courses of their own design. When a member conceives an idea he/she writes a proposal and presents
it to our Curriculum Committee for selection. The study group leaders can be a mix of peer teachers,
an emeriti professor, an independent scholar, an expert hobbyist, a retired teacher etc. who give a
great deal of pleasurable time to study group members in classes that vary from six to twenty that
meet once weekly for two hours over eight weeks.
Classes are held in both the morning and afternoon and most meet in the Aidekman Arts Center on
the Medford campus during the eight week fall, and spring terms. The winter term runs for four weeks
mid-January to mid-February. A concurrent four day summer session is offered the first week in June
in the beautiful air-conditioned Olin Center. All group discussions allow the registrants the
opportunity to explore new subjects, discover new books, find new interests and make new friends.
