Just Call Me Kade: A Portrait of a FTM Youth

2001 • USA • 26 min. • color

Articulate and insightful, Kade knows who he is and what he needs. This incredible story about being 14, transgender, and looking for a girlfriend includes inspirational testimonies from Kade's extended family, who nurture and support him. A beautiful and moving portrait shot over the span of 15 months, this film received an Honorable Mention in the National Council on Family Relations Annual Media Awards Competition in the Category of Sexuality and Sex Role Development.

The film will be presented by May Haduong and James Nadeau, Festival Coordinators for the Boston Gay & Lesbian Film/Video Festival at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

May Haduong has been programming queer films for 5 years.  May has programmed for the Berwick Research Institute, written film reviews for Popcorn Q, and was the Program Coordinator for the North African Women’s Film Festival this past November.  She was on the Teddy Jury for the Berlin International Film Festival this past February and is currently working on programming anti-war and political shorts in the Boston area.

James Nadeau (Tufts '01) is a video and performance artist.  He has programmed at the Berwick Research Institute in Roxbury and juried at the Mills Gallery, Boston Centre for the Arts. His videos and installations/performances have screened throughout North America, including the Harvard Film Archive, MIT Kresge Theatre, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Provincetown International Film Festival, Image&Nation: The Montreal Queer Film Festival, and at MIX: the New York Experimental Film/Video Festival.
