QSA - Queer Straight
Alliance
9:00 p.m., LGBT Center
Should the passage of Question 1 make you feel embarrassed to be from
Maine? On Nov. 3rd, this referendum banning same-sex marriage in the
state was signed into law, before a prior law granting equal marriage
rights was to take effect. At tonight's meeting, we will examine the
media tactics of the "traditional marriage" movement with both a
critical eye and a sense of humor.
We will also be doing a tiny bit of logistical housekeeping: we will
be discussing the very realistic possibility of meeting every week, as
opposed to every other week.

Transgender Explained is perfect for parents, relatives, colleagues,
friends, allies, and even journalists who want to quickly get up to
speed on what it means to be transgender.

The
Image of Black Masculinity/Homosexuality
7:30pm, Sophia
Gordon
PAA is planning
an intimate gathering from the various organizations' prospective
members, but are looking to have as many people from the Tufts
community there to join in on discussion.
The goal of this
meeting is not to "solve" some problem but rather discuss and
acknowledge the various systems in play in our society that force
such institutions such as Morehouse College to make severe changes
in their dress code. While we may not all agree on the specifics of
the school's dress code, the notion of cross-dressing, or the mere
idea of conforming to a set standard, PAA hopes to foster a
discourse on the image of black masculinity/homosexuality and its
perceived conflict with societal expectations.

Built to Last:
Sustaining Social Justice Work for the Long Haul
6:15
p.m., Sophia Gordon Hall Multipurpose Room
Interactive Presentation by: Ellen Somekawa,
Director of Asian Americans United in Philadelphia and Founder of
the Folk Arts-Cultural Treasures Charter School
Battling for racial and economic justice can be
both exhilarating and exhausting. It often feels like hard-fought
gains won over years of struggle can be taken away in a heartbeat.
How do we sustain ourselves and our work over the long haul?
In response to this challenge, Asian Americans
United, a small community group in Philadelphia, created a charter
school, building an institutional anchor for our work. Our school is
both a product of struggle and a site for social justice action. AAU
is combining this newly made institutional permanence with the youth
leadership development and intergenerational community-building that
have been the hallmarks of our work over the past twenty five years.
Ongoing projects of struggle:
anti-gentrification in our communities, fighting against racial and
anti-immigrant violence, building coalition across racial and other
social locations, and continuous educating and nurturing of future
generations.
For further information on the Folk
Arts-Cultural Treasures Charter School please check:

the community organization, the Charter School and the Philadelphia
Folklore Project

adventures to her mother's surprising understanding of same-sex love. Join
us for a viewing and discussion about Asian American sexualities that
promises to be fascinating, over-the-top, and even a bit shocking. A
delicious dinner will be provided! (Cosponsored by the LGBT Center,
