The Leonard Carmichael Society (LCS), named for the Tufts University president of the 1940s who believed he could change the world, connects more than 1,000 Tufts undergrads with the Medford/Somerville community in hopes in improving lives. Featured on the cover of Life magazine in the 1960s, LCS volunteers devote hours of their time to issues of hunger and homelessness, youth mentoring, literacy and education, health issues, and more.
