ABOUT LCS

The Leonard Carmichael Society (LCS), named for the Tufts University president of the 1940s who believed he could change the world, connects more than 1,000 Tufts undergrads with the Medford/Somerville community in hopes in improving lives. With a staff of 85, LCS serves as an umbrella organization for 40 different programs addressing such issues as hunger and homelessness, youth mentoring, literacy and education, health issues, and more. LCS's programs, resources, and leadership capacity have become widely recognized within the Tufts community as well as with the hundreds of community organizations, agencies, and people with whom we work.

Tufts undergrad Richard Dorsay started LCS in 1958 with visits to a mental hosptial, and Life magazine featured LCS on its cover in the 1960s.
