Web Templates

What we offer

Information Technology Services (ITS) offers a range of web templates at no cost* for departments, programs, institutes, and centers within AS&E.   Our team is comprised of professional web designers and developers who are committed to bringing your department's web site up to today's standards. In addition to design and development, ITS will continue to maintain your site's updates once the design has been completed and launched!  This saves you time and ensures the integrity of your site's content and design.

ITS web templates:

ITS has been making efforts to give visual identity to web sites at the University department level.  We encourage departments, centers, programs, and institutes to consult with ITS when considering changes to their web site design.  Using an ITS template will give your department a professional web presence that supports university standards.

Our process:

  1. The initial consultation to discuss your information architecture and desired color scheme.
  2. The template will be modified to match the specifics of your department.
  3. ITS will request feedback from you.
  4. Once your department approves the modified template, ITS will cut and code the design to industry standards.
  5. We fill the site with content you have provided for us and/or copy it from your current site.
  6. The site goes live and your department enrolls in the ITS maintenance plan for continued text updates (or your department may choose to maintain the site's updates but ITS cannot offer support).

Please feel free to present us with content at any point during this process, preferably in electronic format.  The sooner we get information from you, the faster the process. Because we depend on department's feedback throughout the design and development process (and because site size and requirements can vary greatly), we cannot project the launch date of the new site, but we do try to provide a timeline throughout the process.

Cost:

There is no cost for an ITS web template.  *However, restrictions apply to the modifications that can be made to the design and a fee may be charged if the desired changes to the template extend beyond those restrictions.  The custom design rate of $25/hour is applied to templates only if design changes go beyond three rounds.  Custom applications are a for-fee service as well.

Frequently asked questions

In working with ITS, where will my department's site be hosted?

Your site will be hosted on the A&S Windows server. This means that after the http:// it will have a URL something like this: ase.tufts.edu/department_name and soon will move over to the new as.tufts.edu domain.

If selecting an ITS template, what types of modifications are offered?

Our team will work with your department to ensure a professional website that is unique while also following in line with the template guidelines and university standards.  Accepted changes to a template vary but usually include:  palette, title font, photographs, and link names.

Who will make content edits to the web site?

As listed above in Step 6, once the site is launched, ITS usually continues to maintain the site. Departments that rely on their own staff members or students often experience problems due to turnover, skill level, and/or transitional periods. When ITS maintains your site, we ensure consistency in quality as well as efficiency of the content updates. Please see the ITS policy on Web Site Maintenance for more information.
