How to Make a WebDAV Connection (Macintosh)
How to Upload your Web Files onto the ASE
Server using a Macintosh System
While the Mac OS does have native support for WebDAV, it doesn't have
native support for WebDAV over SSL (which encrypts and provides security
for your transmission). Therefore, you'll need to download a different
WebDAV client.
- Download WebDAV software to your computer.
WebDAV software will allow you to copy files from your computer to
the web server. ITS recommends Goliath for Macintosh systems. Please
click on this download link,
and then select a directory to download the software to.
- Uncompress, Install, and Run Goliath
Now that you've downloaded the software, you'll need to uncompress
and install it to use it. Open up the downloaded file and move it
into your applications folder. Once you've done this, just open up
the Goliath client.
- Connect to and Moving Files to and from the
Web Server
Now Goliath is running you need to connect to a web server.
- If you are not prompted to create a new connection, go to the
File menu and select "New Connection...".
- In the URL field, type
"https://webdav.ase.tufts.edu/<site-path>",
where "<site-path>" is the path to your site.
This site path was either provided to you when you requested
access or, if your site was migrated from FTP to WebDAV, is
identical to your old FTP path. For example, if the path to
my old FTP site was "/ase/departments/its", my URL
would be "https://webdav.ase.tufts.edu/ase/departments/its".
- The User Name you'll use is your Tufts network username (this is the
same username you use to login to the network or computer labs).
- The Password is your Tufts network password (again, this is the same
password you use to login to the network or computer labs). As
this connection is encrypted, your password is secure
- Now you can move files to the server in the same way you'd
normally move items between folders on your computer.
- Quitting Goliath
To quit Goliath, choose Quit from the File menu within Goliath.
