Mobile Technology Carts

Overview
In order to enhance the technology capabilities of many of the A&S smaller classrooms, ITS has introduced a program designed to make the best use of limited resources. Mobile carts, or portable/movable carts are available for use in certain predefined classrooms around campus. These carts, in addition to a computer and projector, also have a vcr, speakers and cable for notebook use. Below is a full description of the technology capabilities of these carts.

These carts can be reserved for use by any faculty member for any A&S course that is to be taught in a covered classroom.

Reservation Policy and Room coverage
Reservations for mobile carts are made according to the policy noted below. You may view the current reservation status of the carts using the web-based calendar. To make a reservation for a mobile cart, please contact the local administrator listed below.

Mobile Cart Instructions

Mobile Cart Configuration
Each mobile cart contains the following technology:

  • Dell P4 2.6GHz computer with 512MB RAM, floppy and zip drives, DVD ROM, and wireless mouse/keyboard. This computer also has general use storage space on the hard drive for instructor's files. No software can be installed without permission.
    • The computer contains Netscape, Acrobat Reader, SecureCRT, Microsoft Office XP, OfficeScan AntiVirus, WinZip.
  • A VCR capable of playing VHS and SVHS tapes.
  • A 1000 lumens InFocus projector capable of 1024X786 display and full (25 watt) audio
  • Connection for any portable notebook computer.

Note: Some of the carts have faster processors as new cart purchases continue to take place, but the basic functionality of all the carts are the same.

Local Reservation Policy
To reserve a cart, contact the name listed above associated with the cart needed. Mobile Technology Carts are reserved according to the following policy:

  • Reservations are accepted on a first come-first serve basis.
  • The Office of the Registrar will/may schedule the carts at the start of each semester according to need of A&S.
  • In order to create a fair reservation policy, reservations shall be accepted in accordance with the dates below:
    • for fall semester courses - not before 4-1
    • for fall semester non-courses - not before 8-15
    • for spring semester courses - not before 10-1
    • for spring semester non-courses - not before 12-1
    • for summer semester I - not before 2-15
    • for summer semester II - not before 3-15
  • Carts may only be used in the rooms for which they are designated to cover (listed above).
  • No one instructor may reserve equipment for more than 15 hours per week.
  • It is the responsibility of the instructor to see that the cart is secured after its use and any keys are returned to the local administrators.
