Step-By-Step
Requesting a Course Site

(Text version)

1. Blackboard course sites are available to all Tufts University instructors free of charge. Instructors may have as many course sites as they like. All material posted to a Blackboard course site by an instructor or TA remains on the site even after the course is finished.

At the end of the semester, the accounts of registered students are removed from the course site and it is listed as "unavailable". This means that it is unavailable to regular student access. Instructors and TA continue to have access to their Blackboard course site (even if they are listed as "Unavailable" and can edit them at any time. The next time the course is offered the instructor can request the the site be "activated" so that student accounts can be added to the site.

There are two methods for requesting a Blackboard course site:

1. Direct your browser to: http://ase.tufts.edu/its. This is the Tufts University Information Technology Services Web Site. Click on the "Course Site Request". This displays the course site request form.

  • Enter your Name, e-mail address and Phone Number. Click on "Next".
  • Checkmark the "Read and agree to copyright policy". Click on "Next".
  • Use the Dropdown box to select your School. Click on "Next".
  • Use the Dropdown box to select the semester for which you want the Blackboard course site,
  • Type in the Student Information Services number for the course. This is usually a Departmental Rubric followed by a course number (such as ENG0001A).
  • Type in the Course Title (such as Freshman Composition)
  • Type in the name of the old Blackboard course site if you are re-using a course site. You can also type "same" in this box. Click "Next"
  • If there are multiple sections of the course or if the course is cross-listed with another SIS number note that or any additional information in the box marked "Additional Instructions"
  • Select the "Request this course" radio button if you want only one course site or select the "Request and register for another course" if you want more than one course site.
  • Finally, click on "Process Request".

A receipt will be displayed on the screen letting you know that your request has been submitted. Course site requests ar usually filled within 3 days or less.

2. Another way to request a course site is to e-mail the Tufts Blackboard Administrator at: nhirsig@tufts.edu

  • Provide the name of the course or courses, the SIS course numbers and the semester you want the course to be active. If there is more than one section associated with the course or if it is cross-listed under a different SIS course number, include that information as well. Course site requests ar usually filled within 3 days or less.

If you have any questions or comments regarding this Step-By-Step procedure contact the Tufts Blackboard Administrator at: nhirsig@tufts.edu
